The Terrell C. Gladney Memorial Academy began as a summer basketball academy established to continue a Monday night skills clinic series that ran during the school year. From day one, the Academy was youth-driven – the summer program was created at the request of scholars who loved the Monday night sessions, and sought to have them continue beyond the school year.
Mr. Gladney envisioned the Memorial Summer Basketball Academy as a way to honor the life of Terrell Christopher Gladney (May 10, 2000 – March 10, 2008),In his short 7 years, he made it feel like 70 years for all those who had the pleasure of being around him. Best remembered for his infectious smile, Terrell had an amazingly old soul, and was extremely perceptive for a child his age. He saw the world through an optimistic lens, and the TCG Memorial Academy (Originally the TCG Summer Basketball Academy, then the TCG Memorial Summer Academy) is a humble attempt to provide children an opportunity to see the world through such a lens, and give them many reasons to smile.
